When I first got interested in sustainability, I thought I knew the basics — recycling, saving water, avoiding plastic.
But as I dug deeper, I discovered so many interesting facts that completely changed my perspective.
Some of them honestly left me speechless!
Today I want to share 5 of the discoveries that impacted me the most. Maybe they’ll get you thinking too.
🌍 1. Not all plastic is recyclable
Even if it has the recycling symbol, that doesn’t mean it will actually be recycled. In practice, only a few types — like PET from bottles — are properly processed in most places.

🥕 2. About 1/3 of all food produced in the world is wasted
And a big part of that happens at home. Planning meals, using leftovers, or simply buying a little less already makes a big difference.

👕 3. The most sustainable clothing is the one you already own
Repeating outfits, fixing what you already have, and appreciating your current wardrobe is much more eco-friendly than buying new pieces — even if they’re “eco-friendly.”

🧼 4. It’s possible to make soap from used cooking oil
And yes — it really works! Plus, it prevents the oil from going down the drain and polluting rivers and oceans. A bit unusual? Maybe. Super useful? Definitely.

☁️ 5. Sustainability is also about slowing down
It’s not just about what we consume — but also about how we live. Being more mindful, intentional, and kind to yourself is also part of a more sustainable life.
